Wayne’s Winter Tips

As Winter comes in to full force Wayne Garrick gives us some top winter tips to help us make these next few months that bit easier!
  • As the temperature starts to drop, make sure you have plenty of water stored in butts or containers and store in a warm place.
  • To keep a walker useable or accessible through those Icy spells, we create a path using the muck we’ve mucked out. A bummer to tidy up but so useful to get horses out of their boxes.
  • Drop your horses feed when it’s workload drops with bad weather, this can help prevent colic, tying up and other avoidable ailments.

  • Mud fever, for persistent flares, cream the area with udder cream and cling film over the top and then bandage, this softens the scabs and allows medicated cream to soothe the skin
  • Finally It’s important to stay warm whilst maintaining movement, thin layers allow you to retain movement instead of feeling like a giant woollen mallow man
