Mitsubushi Motors Cup Rider Dan Titterton Reports On How His Preparations Are Going
Sponsored by Le Jabot and Stock Company ltd
How is training going and what have you been up to?
Our training has stepped up a gear over the last few days with more roadwork and a trip to Somerford Park. We are really are very lucky to have such a fabulous facility so close to home & Billy enjoyed a session on the XC schooling field whilst Bailey had a fitness exercise around the farm ride which has brought them both on no end.
Has the equine flu impacted on your plans and /or training?
It has to some extent as I had been planning to take the horses to a local country park for some off-road hacking but although ours are obviously vaccinated, I couldn’t take the risk with lots of other horses around so that has been a shame to miss that out of the fitness program.
Are you taking any extra precautions in light of Equine Flu?
Not really other than we are making sure visiting horses to the yard are fully vaccinated & as mentioned we are not taking risks with taking them to places that are not monitored plus of course with the new BE rule on vaccinations coming into play March 1st all horses that are competing throughout the season will be having a 6-month booster.
Have you booked into your first event yet? if so where are you aiming for?
Billy is entered for Oasby on the 10th March where he will run before contesting in the BD CT Championships a week later. He will then go to Norton Disney with Bailey which will be Baileys first run of the year before he goes to Kelsall Hill.
Are you doing canter/gallop work yet with your horses? How many times a week/fortnight do you work on their galloping fitness?
Bailey did plenty of long canters at Somerford Park the other day which was his first piece of galloping work & im looking to take him to the gallops at the end of the week and then take him a few more times in the run up to Badminton. Billy hasn’t done a lot of strong work just yet as hes fairly fit from his dressage work. He will come on plenty for his first outing at Oasby and work from their as he has plenty of time in between events.
Have you done any training shows? how did you get on?
Yes ive been to a competition on each of them so far. Billy did the 100cm BD combined training, jumping a nice clear to come second & Bailey went to a dressage competition last week where he won comfortably so it was useful just to get our eye back into the competition scene. That will probably be it as we tend to go SJ training by hiring out a BS course which I find more useful.
Are you or do you work on your own fitness? if so what training do you do?

Luckily with riding all the horses & mucking out that keeps me fairly fit so during pre-season I basically watch what sort of things I eat really which means cutting out my favourite things such as chocolate, bread & potatoes which I do find incredibly difficult!!
